Examine...

After you have read through the portion of scripture that you are studying, go back and read it again. You now need to examine or exegete the scriptures to see what they are talking about and what they mean. Ask yourself the following questions...

Who is talking, or who is doing the action? Who are they doing it to? For instance, JESUS may be talking to the DISCIPLES about the PHARISEES.

What were they doing? What were they doing it with? What were they talking about? What did they have in their possession? Does it contain a command or a principle? What were the responses or results of the action being done?

When did this happen or when is it referring to? For example, is this verse referring to something that was done before Christ died on the cross, or after, or even a future event?

Where did or where will this event occur? Or, where were they going to or from?

Why did this event happen or why was something said. Why does God feel it is important to record this in scripture, and why does He want you to know this?

How was something done or said. Was it done in anger or in love? Was it done out of obligation or out of love? Was it natural or was it a miracle?

When we understand the answers to these questions, we will be on the way to understanding this scripture.
