Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. - Psalm 119:11 David knew that if he memorized and hid God's Word in his heart, it would help him not to sin. Memorizing verses from the Bible means to learn them by heart so you can recite them without reading them, or, to say them from memory.
I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. - Psalm 77:12 You should ask God to help you to understand the verses as you memorize them. If you memorize one Bible verse each week, it will give you a whole seven days to meditate on it, or to think about what that verse means and how God might want you to apply it to your life.
God will use Bible verses to help you not to sin, and for you to grow in Christ. He will use them as you tell others about Christ as well.
Not all of us can memorize easily. Some verses are harder to memorize than others. It is suggested that you start off with easier verses until you get used to memorizing scripture. To memorize a verse, write it down on a piece of paper, and then read it over frequently. Read it right out loud so you can hear yourself say it. Understanding what it means will help too.
Print this list of verse reverences on your printer. Each week, find a verse from the list in your Bible and memorize it. Then, spend that week meditating on it. If, you are able, you can memorize more than one verse each week. Cross off the verse reference after you have memorized it. Even if you can't memorize Bible verses, you can practice looking up these verses in your Bible.
